Setting your budget

This is a great place to start, even before you start browsing for options. Setting your budget early helps you guarantee that you won’t have to end up selling your belongings or getting a mortgage for the engagement ring.

However, you need to consider that this is a ring that should last a lifetime and will mark a milestone on both of your lives. In the end, you’re the one that’s going to set your own rules or guidelines … what’s most important is that you’re comfortable with how much you’re spending.

Keeping that in mind and having decided on a budget to invest, you can begin searching for the perfect engagement ring within your desired price range at www.szul.com. We have excellent high quality authentic diamonds and gems for just about… any budget! Our goal is that you find the perfect ring according to your needs.

Learning about the 4 C’s

The 4 c’s in diamond criteria refers to the following: cut, color, clarity and carat weight.

The cut determines the sparkle factor… and when it comes to cut, we have a whole article on that prepared for you! which you can look up HERE

Which diamond shape suits your personality the best-

But there are some other characteristics you might want to take into consideration, we’re going to teach you a little about them; so you can get an idea and decide where you might want to compromise to fit your price range.

Clarity is determined based on the types of inclusions that are found in the diamond and how they affect its appearance, while no diamond is perfectly pure, the closer it comes, the higher its value.

If the diamond is color-less it means it’s super high quality!  A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water.

Tip: in real life the subtle differences between color grades are almost undetectable to untrained eyes!

The carat weight, to us, is just as important as the cut! This is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs. A metric “carat” is defined as 200 milligrams. To get an idea of the diamond size, you have to consider carat weight with two other characteristics: the distance across the top of the diamond measured in millimeters, and the diamond’s cut grade.

When it comes to selecting the best carat weight of diamond, take into consideration the size of her finger, the size of your setting, and of course: your budget.

Hint: Keep in mind that the smaller the finger, the larger the diamond will appear.

Knowing your fiancé

While you’re planning your proposal, you might want to start paying attention to her jewelry style. What kind of rings does she wear? Are her pieces rather delicate or thick  Does she prefer yellow gold or white gold? Is she quite conservative or does she likes the bling?? You can’t really go wrong if you opt for something you know she already likes!

If you’re not sure about which diamond shape she prefers and if she hasn’t explicitly told you about her favorite one, you should stick with the classics! They’re called that way for one reason, we’re sure almost every girl loves a round diamond.

For instance, take into account her lifestyle and her daily routines, if she’s very active, sporty or has a job that requires physical activity the convenient choice would be the most secure mountings and a design which is not that ornamental. In the contrary, if she has an office job and seems more delicate and careful, you can go all the way and look for intricate or unique designs with statement diamonds.

The perfect fit

Ideally, knowing her ring size is in every way, advantageous. But if you don’t, there are some tips we can advice:

The average ring size in the U.S. is 6 (based on the ‘average’ U.S. female being 5’4″ tall and weighing 140 lbs.) If she’s more slender, or fine-boned, her ring size is probably in the 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 range. If she is heavier, larger-boned or taller, her ring size is probably in the 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 range. It’s always better to buy a ring a bit bigger than you think she’ll need, because sizing a ring down is much easier than increasing its size.
